With the summer season coming to an end, now is a great time to start cleaning house. Tidy up and prepare for fall with these summer cleaning hacks!

Pillows

People usually wash their pillow cases pretty regularly, but even your pillows themselves can take a cleansing every now and then. In fact, it’s a good idea to clean your pillows twice per year. Plus, the best part is that is doesn’t require much effort! Simply toss your pillows into the washing machine with your desired amount of laundry detergent. Then, add about half a cup of baking soda. Start the cycle and you’re good to go!

For added fluffiness, place your freshly washed pillows in the dryer with two tennis balls covered with socks. As the dryer spins your pillows, the tennis balls will beat them for you. Allow this process for about 20 minutes of the drying time.

Window Tracks

Your window tracks can attract and build dirt easily. From pollen to dust, there’s a lot of outdoor grime that can get trapped there. So, be sure to tackle this area during your summer cleaning process.

For best results, you’ll need baking soda, white vinegar, paper towels, an old tooth brush, a washcloth, and a butter knife. Start by sprinkling baking soda onto the window tracks. Then, cover the baking soda with a little white vinegar. Allow this mixture to sit on the tracks untouched for about 10 minutes. Then, use the toothbrush to scrub and lift the dirt. Pick up the chunks of buildup with the paper towel, and use a damp washcloth to wipe the area clean. Afterward, your window tracks will look as good as new!

Dishwasher

During the summer, you’re likely to utilize many more dishes with the kids home from school. This means that your dishwasher is probably in need of a major cleaning. Wash away buildup and gunk with this simple cleansing method.

Grab a dishwasher-safe cup and fill it with plain white vinegar. Then, place the cup of vinegar onto the top rack inside of your dishwasher. Turn up the temperature of the water to its highest setting and run a cycle. The heated vinegar will sanitize the dishwasher while lifting away loose grease. Afterward, sprinkle baking soda onto the inner bottom of the appliance and run a small cycle. This will remove stains from the bottom of the dishwasher while freshening the scent.

Kitchen Cleaners

While you’re in the kitchen, keep the cleaning process going by using these cleansers you can find right in your cupboard or fridge!

Baking Soda

Refresh your mattress using baking soda. Mix a few tablespoons of baking soda with about 5 drop of lavender oil. (The mixture should be dry) Sprinkle this mix onto your mattress and let it sit for about an hour or so. Then, vacuum it up and enjoy the freshness.

Make your plastic containers as good as new with baking soda. Drop a pinch of this substance into the container and add warm water. Then, allow the mixture to sit overnight and walah! You’ve got fresh storage containers, just like that.

Lemons

Get fresh chopping boards by pairing this simple ingredient with rock salt. First, cover the boards with the salt. Then, slice a lemon in half and rub the inner portion across the rock salt, scrubbing away stains and smells.

Lemons can also be used as a natural household cleaner. Grab an empty spray bottle and fill it with equal parts lemon juice and water. Then, use this mixture to cut through grime and grease on workstations, sinks, windows, toilets, and mirrors. This way, you can get your entire house squeaky clean without having to suffer through harsh fumes!
